The Lee County Health Department recently presented its 12th Annual Friend of Public Health award to Dr. John Plescia.  Each year, in conjunction with National Public Health Week, health department employees nominate organizations and individuals that demonstrate a collaborative spirit and work as part of the local public health system to improve health in the community.

Dr. Plescia was nominated by (left to right as appearing in photo) Sandy Strohecker, Family Planning Secretary; Janet Malmberg, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner; and Cindy Gabany, Public Health Nurse and selected by an employee awards’ committee.

Dr. Plescia donates an afternoon per month on his day off to see clients in LCHD’s Family Planning program.  He also recently assumed the role of the program’s Medical Director. He makes himself accessible for program staff with problems, concerns, guidance, to sign standing orders, etc.  Dr. Plescia has a wonderful rapport with clients and staff alike.  He takes the time to listen and communicate with his clients and assesses them holistically.  He puts clients at ease with his caring and kind personality. The LCHD is very grateful to have Dr. Plescia as part of its team.
